Movie Review: Munich

Saw Munich Friday night with Sam and his friend Chris. Didn't know what the movie was really about...had NO idea it was based on actual events AND that it was 3 hours long. Really, the movie could have been a concise 90 mintues and would have been a much more compelling movie. Usually extra time is dedicated to allow the audience to catch up to a complicated storyline (Syriana) or to show some visually breathtaking cinematography (Lord of the Rings, Dances with Wolves) or even just because there's a lot of blowing shit up and fighting (Matrix, Mission Impossible). But no...there wasn't that much blowing up or large integrated fight scenes...but we were blessed to witness 2 very long sex scenes..one which was uncomfortable to watch because I don't think I need to see a guy pounding away at his 7 month pregnant wife..complete with naked prego belly. The second scene included some very diligent pounding...to which his wife's hip miraculously didn't dislocate and she didn't seem to even flinch.

The story is pretty straightforward. The Palenstinians took the Israli athletes hostage and killed them. The Isralies retaliate by assasinating the responsible parties all over Europe by using Eric Bana. At first you can sympathize with the revenge...about 2 hours into the movie, you just don't know who to root for, because it's painfully obvious that the cycle is never going to end. Kind of like our current "fight with terrorism."

Before going to the movies, Sam and I were watchin Remember the Titans at home...so all about how black people and white people hate each other... Then we went to watch how Isralies and Palestinians hate each other. By 2 am I was so full of racial hatred to the point of confused exhaustion. Apparently racism is very tiring.
