Laura's Baby Shower

We are all dropping like flies! Laura is the next one to have a baby...she is due Aug 16th with a little girl! This past weekend was her baby shower held at her friend Korina's house. Above you can see a blurry vision of Korina's little girl Eliana who was helping Laura decide which presents to open. They live near Larkspur (101/580) area on the top of a hill...the view was KILLER!
Trying to pick a winner in the "paint a onesie" game at the baby shower.

All Systems >>>> GO!

YAY!!!! Yesterday was my 6 week post partum check up and I was officially cleared for exercise! It has been so long that I started having dreams about running....that's apparently how much I missed working out - ha!

So today I went down to the YMCA with the baby and took their Post Natal Bodyworks class. I made it for 45 of the 75 minutes before I had to run out of there since Donut was starting to wail. The nice thing about this class is that you get to take the baby into the class with you and just leave them next to your workout station. Since the first hour was step aerobics, I got to peek into Donut's stroller while trying to keep up with the steps.

Last 15 pregancy pounds...this is your final warning - I am gunning for you!

Things I'm not getting enough of.....

  1. Sushi
  2. Oysters
  3. Drinks
  4. Exercise
And why is that?

Items 1-3 can be explained by pregnancy. You get so used to not having those things for a year that once the ban is lifted...you forget to seek it out. It has literally been deprogrammed from your internal menu - so sad. I must be more diligent in ordering this stuff more regularly.

Exercise. I actually had a dream about running last night. Who knew that I would miss running so much? Well, my post baby gut misses running...hahahaha. But this coming week I head to my ob/gyn for the post partum check up and hopefully I'll be cleared for exercise so I can hit the gym or go on jogs to take advantage of this beautiful weather we've been having in the city lately!

Post Race Brunch at Presidio Social Club

ARGGGG I'm gonna eat you up baby!!! hahahaha.... pics of me acting like a fool taken by Molly.

After about 5 hours in the sun and the racers got cleaned up, we headed out to The Presidio Social Club for brunch/lunch. I LOVE THIS PLACE and yet it is not my husband's favorite place so I am always torn when he asks "where do you want to go for dinner?" Because I want to go here all the time!
But we can both agree hands down that this place has the best flippin pancakes ever! They are simultaneously crispy, fluffy and chewing - with a healthy pat of butter and syrup to wash it all down.

Escaping the "Rock"

Sunday we headed out to Marina Green to check out Forrest, Sam, Emily and Jason all compete in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Forrest and Sam were on two of nine relay teams for Salesforce.com while Emily and Jason (Molly's niece and brother in law, respectively) did the entire triathlon themselves.

Did I mention that Emily is only 13? Yeah - she pretty much rocked it. We saw her come down the post swim chute a whole 15 minutes faster than her dad...crazy!

Forrest did the cycling portion and Sam did the run portion for a different team. Also on the SFDC team that I personally know were Esther and Mark...

Gotta love the folks who have a sense of humor to put on a costume for the event.

Heidi pretty much lounged in Halmony's arms the entire time. I had the baby in the stroller but my mom kept coming up with excuses to steal the baby... between her and Molly, I don't think Donut was ever put down.

Sam's friend from work in an outfit that one would have to be blind to miss.

Emily chugging to the finish line!

That's Jake (Molly's nephew) getting a good view of the incoming racers so he can spot his dad and run in with him...

Sam is so fast that all I could get were his butt and legs...lol. He's in the red shorts

A Night out with Donut

So our official "date nights" have gone by the wayside for the time being and instead we dash out of the house immediately after feeding the baby anytime we can to go out to dinner. Some days, I am a borderline disaster by the time Forrest comes home so we're not going anywhere - but some days it is possible for me to leave the house which is refreshing.

Last Friday, Forrest was working a bit late and with the extra time to prepare I was able to change out of my permanent loungewear, pack up the baby, pick him up from work then head out to dinner. We went to Park Chalet by Ocean Beach. The food and beer were good - and the place was noisy because there was a band playing which is awesome in case Donut starts crying...really loud...

But alas, all was well and the baby slept the entire time.

But what was the coolest thing about the band? They had a Theremin player in the band. The Theremin is an instrument that you don't actually touch to "play"...totally fascinating. I had only heard of this once during an episode of This American Life called "Classifieds." Check out act 3...where they make a band based off ads from the classifieds.

Birthday Betty

Some pics of me blowing out the lone candle on my birthday cupcake. I guess Forrest could have tried to fit 32 candles on that cupcake, but I think it would have been a MAJOR fire hazard besides the fact that I don't think all the candles would have fit on the cupcake.

P.S. I am not drinking directly out of the champagne bottle, even though it may look like I am...lol. I did indulge in a couple of glasses at the party though.

T minus 20 more pounds to go

Above is a before and after pic of the belly...about one month postpartum on the left and a few days before delivery on the right. I still feel pretty porky now, but compared to the final days of pregnancy, I am freaking SVELTE! I did not realize until now how huge I was just a few 4 weeks ago.

New Breakfast Spot Discovery

This morning, I had breakfast with baby Donut at Judy's on Chestnut Street. Above is the decimated Huevos Grande platter with Pumpkin loaf. It was kind of like huevos rancheros but with one HUGE ass grilled tortilla, scrambled eggs, cheese, salsa and sour cream. I think the only thing missing was the beans as compared to a traditional huevos rancheros.

The thing I was most surprised by was the side of bread... the options were; pumpkin loaf, blueberry muffin, english muffin, 9 grain toast. I got the pumpkin loaf and it was TASTY! definitely going back for more of that another time.

Note to self - remember to ask for "no potatoes" next time. I hate the double starch at breakfast.

I'll take one egg please, super sized

The other day at Whole Foods, they were selling Ostrich eggs. These things were freaking HUGE - but there were a few things that were funny about the eggs...
  • Would one buy an egg to feed a family of 4 or 6? How many servings is it?
  • These things were $30 bucks each - holy criminy....even the chi chiest organic eggs cost maybe $7 per dozen.
  • The cooking instructions on the sale tag was to boil or scramble for 1-2 hours...lol
  • These were on display in the produce section - isn't that non kosher or something? just kidding...they should have really been in the egg section so we can show scale. But it would have only been super funny if Whole Foods also sold quail eggs

Can you imagine the deviled egg this thing would make? You would only make one...for the entire party.

I am insanely curious about it but cannot stand to spend $30 on this dinosaur egg. Is there anyone out there who is interested in trying this out with me...for science?

Berkeley Excursion

Last week we hit up Berkeley for a couple of hours so Forrest could check out the used book store. He had a mountain of old books that he wanted to sell and also to check out the selection... I stayed in the car with Donut which is often an easier thing to do than to accompany him on the errand - but this way I get to leave the house for a little trip too.

These little jaunts will be no more as Forrest has gone back to work today after 3 weeks of paternity leave. Since baby Heidi is a pretty easy kid, we've been able to spend our weekdays going out for breakfast, walks and little jaunts together to stores etc. It has been really nice being at home together during that time just enjoying each other's company, getting to know Donut and finishing up some projects around the house.

Forrest eagerly waiting our tacos from Tacubaya, a mexican eatery in the 4th Street shopping district of Berkeley. This place is SUPER TASTY and they make their own tortillas so they are thick and chewy with a great corn texture.

It was Donut's feeding time too, but she was graciously passed out until we got all the way home!

Happy Birthday to me...

My first Kara's Cupcakes experience was yesterday after a monster sushi take out dinner at the house with some friends. I'm not quite ready to leave the house for a night out on the town just yet - - it's only been 3 weeks people... but I am ready to have people come over and hang.

the cupcakes were obviously DELISH! The two left above are passionfruit cupcakes. We also had Vanilla cream, Coconut, Chocolate Cream, Chocolate and....I can't remember the fifth one. The hubbs did a super fantastic job of planning the get together and even Donut was great by staying awake for almost the entire party and not fussing at all when we kept passing her around to each guest so they could hold her.
Thanks everyone for a wonderful 32nd birthday!
